Exercise on a shoestring

Are your jeans as tight as your purse strings this month? Are you feeling the pinch in your bank balance as well as your belt? Then this article is for you; we have put together five ways to exercise on a shoestring!

Exercise on a shoestring

If a gym membership is a February payday dream, then why not invest a one-off £4.99 on a skipping rope. Not only can you pretend to be Rocky but also 10 minutes of skipping can have the same health benefits as a 45-minute run.

Don’t catch the bus…on purpose!

Why not try walking to work rather than catching public transport? If it is too far to walk the whole distance, get off a few stops early and walk briskly the rest of the way.

We are not kidding; housework burns calories (especially if you turn the music up loud and dance around while you do it!). Did you know that hoovering, dusting and mopping your kitchen floor can burn almost 200 calories each?

Our top tip to make the most out of your housework is to give yourself tasks where you have to run up and down the stairs many times.

Friendly fun and exercise

Meet your friends or family on Sunday for a stroll, or a little jog. Not only is the exercise good for us but research suggests that healthy social ties can lower stress levels and could help us live longer!

Don’t forget having a laugh is brilliant, as just 15 minutes of laughter a day will burn between 10 to 40 calories and make you feel amazing. Ha Ha!

 YouTube to get YouFit

The Internet has a huge library of fitness videos, whether you want to do Yoga, Pilates or learn the full dance routine to dirty dancing, there will be a video for it! Just make sure you close the curtains so the neighbours can’t see you doing your best Davina impression.

And remember, if you are worried about sweating too much then use a specifically designed anti-perspirant deodorant, created to give you up to a minimum of 24-hour protection.

However sensitive you are.
